The Assistant Manager - Advanced Practice Provider (AMAPP) directly manages functional areas, supervises staff to ensure accountability, and performs administrative operations for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Certified Nurse Midwives) in specialty areas at Stanford Children's Health. Participates in leadership initiatives for the Center for Advanced Practice by integrating standards, priorities, and organizational objectives, and performance outcomes. Ensures direct reports comply with organizational, local, state, and federal requirements. Practices in clinical specialty and functions according to the Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Certified Nurse Midwife Job Descriptions.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
• Partners with clinical and administrative leadership to support the clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives of the service, medical director, and management team.
• Collaborates with Manager - Advanced Practice Provider, Advanced Practice leadership, the service line medical director, service line clinical management team, and the APPs regarding clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives.
• Creates and implements quality improvement and process improvement programs and initiatives in designated service lines.
• Develops and integrates orientation plans that ensure APPs new to a service line are properly on-boarded to procedures and practices and have a full understanding of the scope of work and expectations.
• Provides administrator on-call coverage as needed for multiple service lines by ensuring areas are staffed appropriately and addressing any staffing shortages.
• Oversees final APP schedules and addresses any scheduling issues with service line management and APP.
• Manages time keeping and payroll for direct reports.
• Evaluates productivity measures by analyzing visit volumes, gaps, and investigating and implementing solutions from findings.
• Conducts performance evaluations; as well as coaches, mentors, and disciplines staff APPs. Monitors work performed by direct reports in order to meet agreed-upon goals, objectives, and target dates.
• Implements compliance standards and contributes to Medical Staff Office initiatives, policies, and procedures.
• Standardizes practice models that ensure clinicians are practicing to the fullest extent of their scope of practice.
• Evaluates funding, billing, and reimbursement models and troubleshoots and with hospital operations to ensure models are maximized for revenue and cost saving initiatives.
• Investigates and responds to patient/family complaints about care related to the APP. When necessary, takes corrective action.
• Creates and establishes orientation learning plans and training guidelines for new staff NP/PAs. Provides education to staff NP/PAs.
• Serves as an APP representative in hospital-wide committees or serves as liaison to APP committees.
• Participates in regional and national discussions that affect NP/PA practice.
• Participates in the legislative and health policy issues affecting advanced practice.
• Manages assigned staff and functions by assigning work, developing work procedures consistent with hospital policy, local, state, and national guidelines. Monitors work performed by direct reports in order to meet agreed-upon goals, objectives, and target dates.
• Interviews and hires staff members as well as implementing orientation, training and ongoing staff development; coaches, develops and corrects action of personnel as appropriate; performs ongoing and annual evaluation of employee performance.
• Performs clinical practice duties.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited university.
Experience: Three (3) years of work experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant.
(a): PA - Valid California license to practice as a Physician Assistant
- OR -
(a): RN - Valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse
-AND - one of the following advanced practice nursing licenses is qualifying:
(b) NP - Valid California license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner,
- OR -
(b) CNM - Certified Nurse Midwife.
