Provides oversight of inter-professional practice, clinical performance and competency, patient safety and clinical/patient/family education, nursing research, evidence-based practice (EBP) integration and workforce training. The Executive Director has oversight of the organization's learning and professional practice policies, education, training, and professional development programs that empower staff to ensure maximum effectiveness and contribution toward organizational goals and outcomes. Assumes accountability and responsibility for positively influencing the quality of patient care at the organization through effective leadership of Professional Development, Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice and Professional Nursing Practice. This role promotes nursing innovation and assures integration of best practice in educational programs, evidence based practice initiatives, nursing research and professional practice elements including accreditation of nursing recognition programs of Magnet, Nurse Residency Transition, or other programs as designated. In collaboration with other leaders, develops outcome measures for professional development, competency, evidence based practice initiatives, and nursing value. The Executive Director should have a track record of demonstrated success in nursing innovation and professional practice support, academic and professional organization partnership, EBP integration, team building and organizational leadership. Must be a self-starter, highly engaged, and willing to support the organizations objectives. The Executive Director also serves as a member of senior management in the Division of Patient Care Services as such, provides strategy formulation, and operational support of for interprofessional professional practice.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
Provides oversight for the activities of the Professional Development, Nursing Research and EBP and Professional Practice departments. Provides consultation and collaboration with hospital councils, human resources, CNO, VPs, directors, clinical managers, and unit/department/service lines to assure effective and strategic programs and processes.
Serves as a mentor and coach to designated Directors, unit/department CNSs, Nursing Professional Development Specialists in the role of a leader in competency assessment and professional nursing practice.
Integrates education and training to support and sustain improvement in quality outcomes and regulatory standards.
Manages and directs the organizations professional practice, research, EBP and educational strategic plans in conjunction with the senior team to assure alignment with system and organizational mission and goals.
Facilitates relationships and partnership with internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, universities/colleges, public schools, other healthcare systems and government entities, professional organizations in the areas of professional practice promotion, clinical experience opportunities for professional staff, students and on site educational classes.
Works in collaboration with facility and system departments to assure effective inter-professional clinical competency processes.
Responsible for all fiscal activities involving budget preparation for the Center for Nursing Excellence and continuous monitoring of these processes.
Advises senior leadership regarding initiatives and activities that promote maximum staff effectiveness and create a positive impact on quality, safety and service outcomes.
Monitors and evaluates staff performance to ensure programs have a beneficial impact on quality, safety and service delivery and meet requirements of regulatory and Magnet accreditation.
Plans, launches, monitors, and acts on nursing innovation, EBP and research initiatives that are aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
Seeks out, Initiates and actively participates in opportunities for grant, research or program funding through the foundation and other sources.
Designs and establishes benchmarks that measure the impact and effectiveness of nursing practice in alignment to the organization's overall performance.
Participates in EBP integration and process improvement implementation.
Supports leaders and clinical staff in the development and nurturing of shared governance processes.
Mentors and coaches leaders and staff through the application, documentation and demonstration of accreditation standards for regulatory bodies and desired accreditation programs including Magnet, Nurse Residency accreditation.
Partners with Director of Professional Development and organizational leaders to identify needs for training and organizational development, develop and implement new education programs as needed.
Monitors and evaluates staff development programs to ensure programs have a beneficial impact on quality, safety and service delivery.
Collaborates with System Level Leadership Development to assess and evaluate core leadership training programs to ensure ongoing leadership development including Fundamentals of Leadership, Supervisory Basics, Financial Management, Change Management, Process Improvement and Coaching and Mentoring.
Positively impacts professional clinical practice by integrating evidence based practice, national and local care guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices into clinical programs and educational services.
Participates in professional organizations and takes responsibility for professional growth. Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development.
Provides frequent communication and feedback regarding fiscal and programmatic issues.
Establishes and maintains satisfactory customer and public relations through direct or delegated contact. Performs job functions/duties, providing effective verbal and written communication to both internal and external customers.
Maintains an ongoing analysis of professional practice, research and EBP, and educational activities to monitors trends and opportunities.
Evaluates practice outcomes and makes recommendations to meet the desired outcome and strategic planning goals.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Doctorate Degree required; in health care related field, education, or comparable fields of study.
Experience: Broad and extensive and progressively responsible directly related work experience in administrative and/or managerial positions
License/Certification: California Registered Nurse (RN - CA)
Specialty Certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) within one year of hire
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of ANCC standards related to Magnet designation, and Nurse Residency Accreditation standards.
Knowledge of CMS and TJC regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of leadership and management skills essential to the practice of nursing, principles and practices of and current trends in health care delivery and hospital system organization and administration.
Knowledge of the types of nursing practice and delivery systems, understanding of the complexity of the nursing practice environment, roles and responsibilities of the health care team members to achieve quality outcomes.
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management.
Ability to demonstrate vision and innovative concepts to develop, design and implement programs and lead process improvement projects.
Ability to plan, prioritize, direct, manage and evaluate as well as set standards for a major nursing function or program using a systems thinking approach, manage projects and change processes, and effectively and appropriately allocate resources at the care delivery level.
