The Social Work Fellow is a supported, training yearlong Master's level position of professional social work for employees with limited medical social work experience and/or who are recent graduates. Fellows work under clinical supervision from an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Caseloads will be capped below that of a full time staff social worker to ensure that the fellow is able to benefit from close supervision by an experienced LCSW. The fellowship training program includes a bi-weekly didactic seminar focusing on various topics pertinent to hospital social work and a bi-weekly case consultation group. The fellow's caseload is determined by the supervisor to provide for specific learning experiences with time allocated to clinical training and education, exploration, and reflection. Fellows are expected to develop casework and treatment skills as training and experience are gained. The Social Work Fellow develops advanced skills in psychosocial assessments, ongoing supportive counseling, patient advocacy, practical resource assistance, and coordination of care to patients and families within the Packard system. The social work fellowship focuses on the educational and clinical training needs of a beginning social work clinician for individualized engagement in targeted patient care improvement initiatives.
