The Child Life Supervisor is a member of the department leadership team and works under the direction of the Director of Child Life and Creative Arts. The Child Life Supervisor will work with other department leadership, both in-patient and out-patient, on a daily basis to ensure that high quality and collaborative services are provided to support the psychosocial needs of patients and families. The supervisor will make certain that child life services are consistent with the policies, procedures and standards of the department and will oversee and supervise departmental activities, child life specialists as well as the provide child life services to multiple areas within the hospital. The supervisor will serve as a resource to and collaborate with others to advance the department and hospital mission and vision.

Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.
Serves as a role model, providing child life services to patients and family members, including developmentally-appropriate therapeutic activities, education, procedural preparation, coping facilitation, and support as it relates to their illness and medical treatment, modeling care for other child life specialists.
Maintains knowledge of Child Life standards of practice and hospital policies; collaborating with the Director to develop new policies and procedures as needed.
Supervises patient care activities including the department staffing plan, shift coverage and payroll; Manages team schedules and relief needs, including the departmental and relief calendars.
Coaches and mentors staff through staff development and education activities. Assists and supports staff in their pursuit of professional goals. Acts as a professional role model.
Collaborates with Director to plan, implement and evaluate improvements to operational workflow and processes.
Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and coaching of child life personnel. Collaborates with the Director as needed.
Responsible for the annual performance evaluations; completes and delivers employee performance appraisals. Works with director to effectively provide performance feedback to professional staff on an ongoing basis to achieve staff development and staff satisfaction. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.
Collaborates with the department leadership and provides input on the development of annual goals and reports. Supports the implementation of department goals and objectives.
Participates, as requested, on cross-organizational teams, committees and special projects both internal and external to the organization.
Facilitates daily huddle, weekly staff meetings, clinical supervision and TPR in collaboration with department leadership.
Monitors the effectiveness of the Child Life Clinical Advancement Ladder, recommends changes and or improvements.
Assists with managing the day to day operations of the Child Life Department; covering department operations in the absence of the director.
Demonstrates personal and professional growth and expertise by remaining active with the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).
Works toward achieving ongoing development of leadership skills. Maintains competence through attendance at mandatory and other job-related educational opportunities. Participates in professional activities to stay current in relevant areas of practice.
Performs other work related duties, as assigned.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Master's degree in a work related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
License/Certification: CCLS (Certified Child Life Specialist) - Valid national CCLS certification issued by the Child Life Council (CLC)
