The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for ensuring the hospital is maintained at the highest standard of cleanliness. Responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of Environmental Services programs, quality controls, daily management of cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting and overall general aesthetics. Supports over 1.2 M square feet including clinics, Surgical and Interventional platforms, outdoor gardens, HAI/quality programs, and all waste streams. Oversees the vendor providing housekeeping at Stanford Children's Welch road sites. Assures all regulatory standards are met. Directs business practices in order to uphold Stanford Children's Health mission and values. Develops new and emerging business solutions for sustained growth and effective day-to-day operations.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
Maintains and implements sanitary and safety conditions and training to adhere to auditing procedures and statutory regulations
Active Daily Management - Plan, organize, and direct the work of the Environmental Services department including strategic planning, establishing goals and objectives, controlling costs and improving efficiency and service delivery effectiveness. Apply Lean concepts and tools to promote ownership of operational performance and reinforce continual improvement efforts.
Prepares and maintains departmental reports and records, collecting statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. Creates a monthly dashboard to track quality, financial and HR metrics.
Surveys regularly all departmental procedures for adherence to sanitation, infection control, regulatory compliance, safety and patient confidentiality standards. Provide feedback to staff in a transparent and consistent manner.
Prepare for the activation of small and large scale projects and the subsequent repurposing of the existing buildings for continued patient care use. Ensures operational readiness inclusive of labor and non-labor requirements.
Oversees expenditures to control department financials
Develops departmental budgets, utilizing trends, completes monthly variance reports including identifying trends and developing plans to mitigate any negative variances.
Leverage productivity and staffing modelling systems to actively and dynamically manage daily operations (position control). Utilize analytics and technology to correlate and predict volumes and customer requirements.
Oversees vendor negotiation, contracting, invoicing and purchasing. Designs business workflows responsive to time sensitive needs, but also cost-effective with adequate controls and oversight.
Directs daily property maintenance, housekeeping and custodial service operations in order to provide quality services
Accountable for the execution of product and service quality by maintaining highest level of delivery
Provides leadership in implementing and sustaining initiatives to improve Patient Satisfaction. Instill accountability for providing consistent positive patient interactions that differentiates the organization as a healthcare leader.
Consult with Administration and management peers regarding the functions of the department in their areas of responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction.
Innovation & Education
Oversees sustainability initiatives related to environmental services. Provides input to the Stanford Children's Sustainability Plan
Provides an ongoing effective in-service program for all employees of the Environmental Service Department. Maintains documentation of any training. Coaches staff on performance, career development and teamwork
Continuously maintains knowledge of Industry Best Practices to improve service, quality, safety and patient satisfaction. Ensures a systematic approach consistent with accepted industry standards. Applies operational principles that acknowledges the unique nature of a complex care environment. Ensures the department is in alignment with industry benchmarks for patient satisfaction.
Ensures own expertise and that of the division / operational area is up-to-date, working with individuals to fulfill their development and training requirements.
Coaches managers on how to identify and proactively mitigate potential points of team conflict

Promotes and supports workplace diversity initiatives
Establishes a safe work environment for employees by ensuring equipment safety and compliance with LPCH safety and loss prevention programs and by providing safety-related training and equipment inventory and maintenance. Implements programs to decrease worker injuries, in consultation with environmental, health and safety (EHS).

Oversee personnel practices including recruitment, orientation, training, retention and performance management of staff within the department according to departmental and hospital policy.
Communicate with staff to keep them abreast of policy changes, new procedures, standards of performance, and departmental/hospital activities and follows up to ensure understanding. Creates opportunities and forums for discussion and idea sharing
Ensures all employees have proper supplies, equipment and uniforms.
Mitigates staff concerns regarding issues by investigating allegations and taking appropriate action
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a related field
Experience: 7 years of experience in Environmental Services leadership in healthcare.
License/Certifications: None Required

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.
Technical expertise in Environmental Services for healthcare.
Familiar with the use of personal protective equipment, housekeeping supplies, OSHA standards, housekeeping equipment, DNV standard, Title 22 technical procedures.
Must have knowledge of Hazardous Waste Handling, Medical Waste Act or Linen Room management.
