Serve as a member of the Single Ventricle Program’s multidisciplinary team while providing baseline or follow-up developmental and neuropsychological assessments for patients with complex single ventricle heart disease. Work in partnership with Single Ventricle program’s multidisciplinary team, as well as patients, parents, teachers, school administrators, government, and family services agencies to ensure cognitive, social, emotional, and educational needs of patient population are evaluated and identified.
Provides psychological diagnosis and psychotherapeutic interventions and treatments, and consults in the field of clinical/rehabilitation psychology and/or neuropsychology in a hospital inpatient/outpatient setting with interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams and other medical specialties.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
Conducts psychological assessments for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes. Develops individualized treatment plans for each patient assessed, including identifying specific treatment goals and outcomes
Consult with developmental-behavioral pediatricians, nurse practitioners, speech-language pathologists, and other medical specialists to provide family-centered care.
Consults with patients outside mental health providers. Provide appropriate referrals to outside community services as indicated or requested.
Evaluates client’s progress over time and response to treatment; modifies treatment strategies and includes the client as part of the decision-making process.
Generates reports of diagnostic and psychological findings and/or treatment recommendations.
Maintains detailed medical records for every contact (individual and group) and clinical phone calls.
May participate in hospital research or program development as appropriate.
Obtains and studies medical, psychological, social and family histories, by interviewing individuals, couples, or families and reviewing relevant records.
Participates in professional staff conferences concerning psychological assessment methods, techniques and results.
Performs direct service activities including diagnostic evaluation and structured clinical interviewing.
Provides in-patient consultation to patients with acute psychological and developmental issues.
Provides patients with information about support groups and/or additional educational resources as indicated or requested.
Selects, administers and interprets a wide variety of psychological testing instruments for the diagnosis and evaluation of clients with developmental and behavioral disorders.
Assists in the development, maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures regarding assessment of children of varying ages, standardizing recommendations, individualizing pathways for children with unusual circumstances, explaining the procedures to families and other professionals.
Presents information regarding developmental and neuropsychological issues of children with complex single ventricle heart disease to parents, community groups, other hospitals and agencies.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited university, completion of an APA or CPA pre-doctoral internship with a focus on child development, completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
License/Certification: PSY - Licensed as a Psychologist by the State of California

Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Knowledge of principles of psychopharmacology and psychobiology; psychometric and statistical theories and methodology; psychological research methods and experimental design.
Knowledge of theory and practice of individual and group psychotherapy.
