The Trauma Program Manager provides programmatic oversight for the trauma service for both hospitals relative to assisting the Trauma Service Medical Director in the organization of services and systems necessary to provide quality patient care, promoting a coordinated multidisciplinary team effort to ensure optimal patient outcomes, and the overall direction and coordination of all aspects and activities of the Trauma Service. The Trauma Program Manager plans and implements clinical protocols and practice management guidelines; monitors the care of hospital patients; coordinates process, performance and quality improvement activities as they relate to nursing and other health care providers; supports marketing and promotion of the Trauma Service; and acts as a clinical resource to all departments responsible for the care of trauma patients. Also provides and coordinates education for the Trauma Service within the hospital and medical school and develops and maintains all required clinical, administrative and financial statistics and reports for and serves as the hospital's Trauma Service liaison with other trauma centers, county Emergency Medical Services agencies, external regulatory and accrediting bodies.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
• Coordinates and/or participates in multidisciplinary patient/family conferences and discharge planning with Case Managers, House Staff and other healthcare providers.
• Develops and maintains appropriate and required clinical, administrative, performance improvement, patient safety and assists in financial data analysis and statistical reports for Stanford Hospitals and Clinics, Santa Clara County EMS agencies, in accordance with the state of California Title XXII regulations and the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center criteria. This includes maintenance of the Registry.
• Develops activities relating to outreach, marketing and community and healthcare provider promotion of the Trauma Service and establishes effective networks with colleagues throughout the region.
• Ongoing management of budget and cost effectiveness
• Facilitates organizational change, promotes professional and clinical advancement, and develops clinical judgment through role modeling, teaching, coaching, and /or mentoring.
• Maintains continual/daily review of risk management documents regarding incidents relating to the Trauma Service, brings issues and concerns to the attention of the appropriate manager or administrator, and monitors the correction of identified problems.
• Monitors clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided.
• Support Director with attendance of meetings. Assists with local & regional, meeting intensive, multiple meeting schedule monthly
• Participates in establishing and modifying standards, policies, objectives, protocols and practice management guidelines for trauma patient care consistent with best practices as well as monitoring care of patients and servicing as a resource for clinical practice.
• Monitors the performance of hospital departments and clinical services, identifying the appropriate manager or administrator areas to communicate the need of improvement /benefit from enhancement in both individual and team functions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Recommends and/or provides specific training programs
• Represents the Trauma Service on unit-based trauma committees, county liaison activities pertinent to prehospital and trauma care, and specialty groups such as the Trauma Consortium.
• Conducts needs assessment, develops and assists in the instruction of trauma educational programs for nurses, physicians and paramedical personnel.
• Participation in grant or fund raising opportunities
• Assures coordination and integration of quality, performance and process improvement plans and activities. Participates in establishing and modifying standards, policies, objectives, protocols and practice management guidelines with care consistent with best practices and servicing as a resource for clinical practice.
• Participates in the research goals of the trauma service. Input & participation of strategic plan
• Assists Director in Planning, organizing, directing and the operational and clinical aspects and activities of the hospital Trauma Service to ensure provision of quality, cost-effective care in accordance with the hospitals' missions, strategic plans, goals, all applicable internal policies and procedures, and external regulations and requirements.
• Provides consultation within an area of expertise on patient care and clinical practice issues within SHC which includes the identification of trends in practice standards that impact patient care, recommendations for optimal practice and implementation of solutions for optimal outcomes.
• Provides specialized knowledge and skill to assist staff with management of difficult patient family problems and/or manages specialty populations to improve and promote healthcare outcomes.
• Develops quality filters, audits and case reviews to identify trends and sentinel events and assist in developing corrective activities. In collaboration with the Medical Director, assuring coordination and integration of quality, performance and process improvement plans and activities.
• Assures proper equipment and supply readiness and education through daily operational, rounding & staff support.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Masters degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
License/Certification: CA Registered Nurse (RN);
ACLS - Acute Care Life Support;
ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care Nursing) -OR- TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) certification;
BLS - Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers
