JOB SUMMARY

The Coding and Charge Entry Analyst is responsible for ensuring that all professional services billings for the department supported are accurately entered into the IDX billing system in a timely manner. The Coding and Charge Entry Analyst is responsible for all the components of the billing process through the entering of charges into the IDX billing system. The process encompasses ensuring that the providers have provider numbers, all professional activity is capture, encounter forms are complete, patients are appropriately registered and that all charges are entered into the system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* As appropriate, obtain LPCH medical record number for outreach patients and registers patient in IDX.
* When necessary, verifies insurance information with the hospital business office where services were provided.
* Assists Supervisor in updating policies and procedures.
* Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
* Cross train and maintains CPT and ICD-9 specific coding knowledge in all specialty areas to support the Charge Entry Team as necessary.
* Ensures all providers have billing numbers; informs Billing Supervisor and PSO Provider Enrollment Coordinator when provider numbers are missing.
* Identify and analyze billing errors, determine cause and make recommendations for improving the process.
* Process charge corrections and make FSC transfers as appropriate.
* Receives and reviews charge documents for completeness before entry into IDX.
* Ensures that all required elements for charge entry are complete and legible on a variety of charge documents.
* Utilizes Meditech, IDX, MedRec via Cerner or other systems to review patient insurance demographics, medical records and billing activity. Updates and/or completes patient registration as appropriate in IDX.
* Verifies information on charge documents to ensure appropriate CPT and ICD-9 utilization and prevents duplicate billing.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
Licensure/Certification: None required.

KNOWLEDGE

* Ability to utilize the ICD-9-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions to code medical record entries; abstract information from medical records; read medical record notes and reports; set accurate Diagnostic Related Groups.
* Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $37.55 to $46.94
