Program Overview:
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, the heart of Stanford Medicine Children's Health, offers exceptional learning opportunities for current students and recent graduates to complete their orientation and training.
Our Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Residency is a 12-week program, which encompasses didactic learning, to develop your ability to think critically, preform evidence-based learning, and become oriented on built-in respiratory care equipment. With a comprehensive evaluation conducted at program completion to track competencies, to seamlessly facilitate your advancement into the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Level 1 role.
Our program greatly enhances your education through exposure to many of today’s top medical advancements and the individuals responsible for them. Our Respiratory Care team at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is a part of the Pulmonary & Cystic Fibrosis Center, which provides a wide range of services for children with pulmonary and respiratory disorders, in the inpatient setting; trained to administer therapies to patients in the Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU, and our Acute Care areas. Our mission is to provide high quality, evidence-based therapies to all our patients, as we promote education for medical staff, nurses, our patients, and families, related to the pulmonary system and the therapies that we provide.
Program Applicant Requirements - Fall 2025:
- Must be a graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program, with degree conferral within one (1) year of program start date.
- Degree conferral awarded after September 15, 2024, for our Fall 2025 Cohort.
- Must hold current unencumbered Respiratory Therapy License, issued by the Respiratory Care Board (RCB) of California (CA).
- Verified before September 10, 2025, for our Fall 2025 Cohort.
- Must hold current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification, issued by The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Verified before September 10, 2025, for our Fall 2025 Cohort.
- Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification - issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification - issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

- Cover letter which indicates your reason for applying to LPCHS – Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Residency Program
- Two (2) signed letters of recommendation ("wet" or electronic signature), from Management, RCP Program Faculty, RCP Clinical Instructors, and/or Preceptors on professional letterhead. (Max of 3 letters)
- RCP program transcript. (Unofficial copies are accepted)
